En guise de biographieI don't believe reading my biography will be of any use for you.Is the fact that I was born in Paris in 1952 will make you want to open my gallery? If you know about my professional career away from my brushes and about the circumstances of my return to art, will you want to discover my paintings? I'm not sure! So I'll rather talk about my work and my motivations. I belong to the pop generation: pop music and pop art.And there also was hyperrealism, marrative figuration, all the artistic movements opposed to abstraction. We were going back to figurative and I loved it! When I started painting again, a few years later, I still liked drawing and colour, and I started a series about eyes: animals first and then human beings. I liked to travel and the fascination I had for human eyes enabled me to create a series I called "Looks from the world". Then I wanted to put these looks on stage, to include them in a wider picture. It is my work today: no abstraction needing long philosophical discussions, no paintings with macabre colours to analyze. Only looks within a particular context: Andy Warhol associated to New York, the look of a suburban teenager with a tag, an allegory of slavery where a contemporary Black child looks at yesterday's violence. Paintings willing to tell a story or, rather, paintings that give elements so that the spectator can build a story, but also paintings within the painting, embedded elements. I only present my latest paintings on the website. I just hope you'll like them. |
