Joseph Caldwell
watercolours 2016
Since 2015, I have devoted myself entirely to the exploration of watercolor, and specifically to watercolor wet-on-wet, largely inspired by Ewa Karpinska. My favorite subject are the rivers which have been engraved in the limestone of our mountains in the Chartreuse massif.
Watercolor wet-on-wet allows the artist to intervene during the sedimentation process of the pigments, thus opening up a range of possibilities of texturisation and graphics unique to this technique. The expression can crystallize gradually in all gentleness, keeping the characteristic, meditative soft-focus.
